What is toastmasters?

Toastmasters is a not for profit organisation helping people from all walks of life gain or further develop their public speaking skills.

Toastmasters is a world wide organisation that is organised into local clubs, which fall into an Area, then District, then District and Region and finally the country.

Most toastmaster meetings are set out with a certain structure including a business session, a table topic session and a toastmasters session. Within this meeting there is a range of different roles and jobs that are performed for a successful meeting, giving members exposure to different types of public speaking.

Why Toastmasters?

Participating in meetings will give you a range of public speaking skills:

  • Running a meeting
  • Supporting a meeting
  • Impromptu speaking (Table topics)
  • Prepared speeches (Toastmasters session) for different manuals.
  • Listening and evaluating speakers.

In a club setting you will be exposed to experienced speakers and newer members which makes for a dynamic club and a variety of speeches, topics and skill level.

Almost everything in Toastmasters is evaluated so that members get receive instant feedback on their performance.

If regular meetings is not for you, you can participate in a Speechcraft* course where all the basics of public speaking will be covered and you will deliver several speeches throughout the course.

As toastmasters is a non for profit organisation the cost are very reasonable compared to other public speaking courses.
